The pieces collected here span a period of fourteen years and a variety of mediums and methodologies. Some of them were released previously on obscure compilation albums, some have been coaxed from crumbling two and four track cassettes. There is some inevitable fraying of the sonic fabric due to the novel and various extreme environments through which the stored tapes have traveled over the years. In putting these pieces together I found myself thinking about the ways in which languages of sound develop and evolve, about the function and value of memory and about the persistence of ideas. It sometimes seems that despite the progress within a given body of work that the significance of an artist's first work to the comprehension of the last work is crucial as the evolution from one to the other is the true core of the achievement.
